Can You Hold Your Integrity When its Easy To Sell Your Soul?
I’d say since COVID, integrity has been the ongoing theme until present day. Not to dive too deep into politics, but we are seeing over and over again on both sides a lack of integrity in general. People are committing heinous crimes, getting away with it and we watch the people who stay loyal to these individuals.
It’s not different on social media with certain experts, gurus, wellness influencers. Maybe at one point, their integrity was at full capacity but as time goes on, more followers, more views/likes, engagement, virality.
There’s a shift.
As someone who has studied forensic psychology and has worked in the mental health field for over 10 years from a case manager to a marketing consultant for therapists, studying and observing human behavior has become my thing.
It happens to every single one of these groups of people, and its mere human nature at the end of the day. Once fame or recognition arrives, integrity is put to the test. Fame is intriguing, it brings in money and opportunities you’d never once get prior.
But what got you there was your integrity. And it’s tempting to sell your soul for money and opportunities.
That’s human too.
Experts, doctors, gurus and wellness influencers usually collaborate with the same group clique of elite influencers of their “field”. They get on the same podcasts, the talk about the same topics, they share their books, programs, supplements and other opportunities to buy into “them”. They stroke each other’s egos like the other person has discovered something new. Usually the information is already out there, but they’ve become the face of it. Or they fear monger using a sliver of truth and spinning it, so they then become the founding father of a “new solution.”
Ego is another drug. We all have it. Some stronger than others. Their internal struggles and holes get filled by the constant external validation of social media which blinds them of the original mission. They all set out to help other people. But at what cost?
Is it worth losing your integrity for fame and money? Some may agree that it is. I personally don’t. I think it shows more character of who you are when you can face the “easy outs” and still stick to your guns about what you do and who you are.
With that, comes trust. Undeniable trust is credible and treasured. With the emergence of AI, the height of social media influencers at an all time high, we’re losing trust as a collective every single day.
The price for integrity and trust is priceless and will always win in the end.
Pay attention to who these experts, doctors and wellness influencers collaborate and associate themselves with. Use discernment when reading or watching someone’s content. Fact check it for yourself. Stay curious and always question.
Integrity is sacred and should be seen as such. Selling your soul for virality and fame will always bite you in the ass at some point. I guess you decide whether you think it’s worth it.
